Crab FAQ's

Since the mid 1800's, Maryland Blue Crabs have been caught commercially in the Chesapeake Bay area.  They are now harvested from the mid Atlantic region to Florida, and in Gulf states as far west as Texas.

Q.   How many people will a bushel feed?

A.  There are approximately 5-6 dozen crabs in a bushel of #1 males.  This feeds 12-14 people if you are having other food, such as salads, etc.  It does not matter what size crabs you buy, the volume is the same in a bushel of crabs they size is just smaller, so a bushel of regular males feeds the same amount of people as a bushel of bigger crabs, there is just more pickin to be done.

Q.  How do I store, and how long can I store left over crabs?

A.  Left over crabs should be handled the same way any other left over food is stored.  It should be kept sealed in a refrigerator whose temperature is properly maintained.  We do not recommend keeping them any longer then 2-3 days after initial purchase.
